Hippopotamus for Paedzolt recorder solo (2017)

The main idea of this piece is exaggerating the effect of fast leaping motion on paedzolt. Initially, this leaping gesture is inspired by hippopotamus' figure coming out of water or his breathing.

The hippo has the character of calm under the water, though when he had to fight or to eat he turns out to be very wild. I had the sound images in my head for this contrast of his behavior. In order to emphasise the contrast in between the calmness and argute character, the performer plays cajon by foot, simultaneously. This piece is specially written for recorder player Kyuri Kim.
